Monica Scheibmeier has been named dean of the Washburn University School of Nursing.
Currently an associate professor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, Scheibmeier has been a member of KU faculty since 1995. She holds a bachelor's degree and a doctorate from the University of Kansas and a master's degree from the University of Arizona, all in nursing.
Scheibmeier's professional activities include a seat on the research committee of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties; co-chairperson of the faculty member resources committee of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties; and the Kansas State Nurses Association liaison with the Tobacco Free Kansas Coalition. She is a member of the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco, Tobacco Free Kansas Coalition and Kansas Public Health Association. She serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Preventative Medicine, the Western Journal of Nursing Research and Nicotine and Tobacco Research Journal.
In 2009, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Scheibmeier has also been honored with the Sigma Theta Tau Delta Chapter Excellence in Clinical Practice Award, the Center for Teaching Excellence, University of Kansas Award and the Jean Johnson Research Award, School of Nursing Research Committee.
Scheibmeier will assume her new position Aug. 1. She will replace Cynthia Hornberger, who will return to teaching full-time as a member of the WU School of Nursing faculty.
