Find Resources for College at the Library

E-mail Print

Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library features a whole section devoted to helping customers locate resources for college and vocational technology funding. We are not consultants, but we can guide you to scholarships, grants, and funding options that you may not have considered. The section is located in the reference room at the back of the library.

Come and pick up a FAFSA form or ask for help finding it online. Peruse the Scholarships, Fellowships, and Loans book. Inquire about scholarships for particular minorities like Asian-Americans, Latinos, or African-Americans to name a few. Search schools by geography, specialization, length of program, or type of studies. There are a number of options available to you. If the course of study isn’t yet known, use the section to consider your choices using the Careers and College book. You can find career books in either the adult or young adults sections, depending on your age and needs. These helpful guides contain information about a chosen career including duties, pay scale, and job outlook.

Sometimes a trip to the library isn’t necessary if you’ve got a library card in hand. Don’t have the time to visit us in person? Use one of our databases off-site! The Testing and Education Reference Center could be a perfect fit. Find it from our home page (www.tscpl.org) on the left side of the page under Research, Databases A-Z, and click on T for Testing and Education Reference Center. Enter the database by using your card number.

Performing a college search, graduate search, specialty and career search, or preparing for a test is easy using this database. It’s free for library users and covers most of the common questions that newcomers to the college experience may have. This database also includes vocational technology schools and can be used in place of or in tandem with written test preparation guides that the library has available for checkout.

Come by the library, or call for assistance at 580-4540 or via instant messaging on Meebo at www.tscpl.org.
