Keep America Beautiful-Topeka/Shawnee County will dedicate Trees for Freedom

Keep America Beautiful Topeka/Shawnee County will be planting "Trees for Freedom" at VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers from Shawnee County who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The planting and dedication ceremony is scheduled on Friday, May 29th at 3:00 p.m. at 2200 SW Gage directly behind Building 24. PFC Jeremy Drexler, Spc. Kyle Thomas and PFC Richard A. DeWater will be honored. American Legion Post 400 will post the colors of our nation. There will also be a bench made of recycled plastic and tires donated by Champlain Recycled Tires of Concordia.

Senator Sam Brownback and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins will speak at the dedication. Diana Pitts, President of American Gold Star Mothers NorthEast Kansas Chapter; and Charlotte Myers, American Gold Star Mother for NE Kansas Chapter will be in attendance.

The tree planting event is being supported by Collective Brands, Inc./Payless ShoeSource, which is purchasing and providing labor to install the trees.
