Westar Support Big Brothers Big Sisters

Westar Energy donated $10,000 to Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters in and effort to support mentoring at-risk children in more than 63 counties across Kansas.

“We are dedicated to providing service to our customers and fellow citizens beyond simply providing efficient energy. Through Westar Energy Foundation’s donations, we target youth and support programs designed to achieve the following goals: improve academic performance of youths and prepare youths for the world of work and community leadership,” said Cynthia McCarvel, President, Westar Energy Foundation. “Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters and all of their statewide agencies are proving their positive impact on youth and the community each day.’

Eagle Scout Awarded

Patrick Towle, a member of the Christ the King Parish in Topeka and Boy Scout Troop 11 received his Eagle Scout at the Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, August 30th at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka.

The Eagle Scout is the highest honor a Boy Scout can receive.

For his Eagle project, Patrick led a team of Scouts who built easels for the Family Service and Guidance Center of Topeka. They will be used at the annual fundraiser to display artwork from the clients.

Patrick is the son of Allan and Chris Towle of Topeka.

In 2008, around 5 percent of all Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank.
