The Topeka RoadRunners hockey team is pleased to announce their partnership with Cumulus Broadcasting and ESPN Radio AM 1490 for the 2009-10 hockey season.
The two have reached an agreement for the broadcast rights for the upcoming season, the RoadRunners third in Topeka. Under the agreement, all 58 regular season games and the playoffs will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio AM 1490 KTOP, a Cumulus station.
"Bringing the Topeka RoadRunners to the community by getting us back on local airwaves is a huge step forward in the transformation process", said team owner Don Stone. "This is a solid partnership that works both ways and that's what we're all about." Keith Liesmann, General Sales Manager for Cumulus in Topeka agrees. "We're thrilled to be back broadcasting all of the RoadRunners games and look forward to being a part of the teams continued growth and success in our community."
Play by play duties will once again be handled by the "Voice Of The RoadRunners", Arch Ecker. Ecker called the games during the teams inaugural season in Topeka, and last season webcast home games solely on the internet. Entering his 14th season in the league with over 700 games experience, he is excited about the agreement. "I believe having games on local radio is a huge benefit for the team, the businesses that sponsor the broadcasts, and most importantly the fans", he said. "This agreement ensures Topeka will always be in touch with their team, no matter where they're playing."
The RoadRunners are in the planning phase of scheduling preseason games, and the full league schedule is expected to be completed in June. The season will run from September through March, with playoffs in April 2010.
